GETTING AROUND

The “Hele-on Bus”  operates a daily schedule of  free intra-Kona and across-the-island bus routes between Kona and Hilo. Buses can be flagged down at the bottom of our hill (1/3-mile walk away) or caught at the covered bus stop another 1/4-mile walk up the road. Bus service, however, is intended for island workers, not tourists; so it tends to run along major arteries rather than scenic routes, and it does not go to many of the vacation/holiday hotspots

If you are planning to see the island -- and there is a lot to see -- you would do well to consider renting a car for at least a portion of your stay.  All the major car rental agencies have car lots at the airport.  Depending on the season and on advanced bookings,
Hotwire.com often has car rentals for as little as $18.99 per day. All car rentals and pickup arrangements are best scheduled ahead of arrival.

For transportation from Kona International Airport (KOA)

to our location, it is is advisable to arrange for a taxi, Uber, Speedi Shuttle or a rental car pickup. As soon as we confirm your lodging and receive your flight details, we will email you driving directions from whichever side of the island you specify.  Later, Shaman 'Golden Feather' will be available to assist you when you are ready to begin your program.

"A beautiful area for enjoying this part of the island!" -- S.V., Guest, 2016

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Our shamanic grounds sit at 1600 ft elevation above the 111-mile marker on Highway 11 on the Kona Coast.  Approximately 35 minutes south of KOA (Kona International Airport), we are halfway between Kealakekua town (1.5 miles North of us) and the town of Captain Cook (1.5 miles South of us) -- just 11 miles south of the tourist center of Kailua-Kona and its big box stores (Lowe's, Target, Walmart, etc.).

A 3-mile hike down slope (6 miles by car) lies Kealakekua Bay, the State of Hawaii's #1 top marine life sanctuary. This offers countless opportunities for snorkeling, kayaking, and swimming alongside the dolphins and sea turtles.  Purified spring water hot tubs, licensed massage therapists, kayak rentals, and a convenience store are all within walking distance.  Cafes, banks, restaurants, guided tours, yoga classes, a fruit stand, 2 post offices, the public library, New Thought Center,  a McDonald's restaurant, 2 grocery stores, various antique and thrift shops, and the Sunday Farmer's Market with plenty of organics are all within a 2-mile stretch. For those without transportation, amenities are just a bus ride or a healthy walk away

HAWAII'S NATURAL WONDERS

If you care to see the rest of the island's many scenic wonders, the opportunities are endless.  Mauna Kea summit (where you can drive from sea level to 14,000 feet in about 2 hours) is an approximately 2-hour drive northwest of us, and we are just 2 hours northwest of Volcanoes National Park  with Ka Lae (the southernmost tip of the United States), several beach parks, and Papakolea Beach (one of only 4 green sand beaches in the world) as potential side-trips en route.
